The Atlanta United Divinity Center

The Atlanta United Divinity Center is a cooperative ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ.  Since its inception, the Divinity Center has been sponsored by the Christian College of Georgia as an effort to further the mission of the Christian College “to nurture, education and prepare Disciples for ministry and service.”  The Center service Disciples and UCC seminarians attending Candler School of Theology of Emory University, Columbia Theological Seminary, the Interdenominational Theological Center, and McAfee School of Theology of Mercer University,  Students in other seminaries in Greater Atlanta are also welcomed to participate in the activities and programs of the Divinity Center.

The Divinity Center exists to provide spiritual and ecclesiastical identity to Disciples and UCC seminarians, as well as to forge cooperative relationships among educational institutions which are not historically affiliated with theses denominations.

“Our Vision is to be a worshipping and nurturing community, a support network which encourages, empowers, and enables seminarians to enhance their ministries in Jesus Christ.  We express our ministry in Disciples of Christ/United Church of Christ traditions and ethos through ecclesiastical, academic, financial emotional and spiritual resources.  We seek to help seminarians to be focused students in partnership with local congregations, and to establish a perpetual kinship among future leaders of the Church.”

The Atlanta United Divinity Center is centrally located in downtown Decatur on the campus of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Decatur, Georgia.  The Center is funded through the generosity of the Christian College of Georgia, has received funds from the Sowing Seed Campaign of the Region of Georgia, and has also been a recipient of grants from Peachtree Christian Church and Central Congregational Church.  A resource library containing rare historical and theological materials was provided by Christian College.

In partnership with congregations and the two denominations, the Divinity Center offers Student Ministry Opportunities, Fellowship events, assistance in identifying scholarships and grants, research assistance, and help with the Commission on Ministry (DOC) and the Church and Ministry commission (UCC).

Inquiries are welcome, and prospective students may call Bob Harris, Acting Director, at 1-800-235-2496.
