Michael Weeks is a fifth generation
Disciple born in Enid, Oklahoma in 1961. The oldest of three children, Michael
spent his formative years living at Central Christian
Camp and Conference Center in Guthrie, Oklahoma where his father, also Disciple
clergy, continues to serve as Administrator. His mother also serves the camp in
a programming capacity.
His first call to ministry came at a high school
work camp. He attended Phillips University and got side tracked in the Mass
Communications Department and graduated in December of 1984 with a Bachelor of
Science. He served, as a youth sponsor and camp counselor whenever he could, but
had to pay the freight by working in the Broadcast business in Oklahoma, Texas,
and North Carolina. He managed as many as 25 employees during his first career.
Michael finally answered God's call and graduated from Phillips Theological
Seminary in 1997. He was ordained at First Christian Church, Guthrie, Oklahoma
the next day.
Michael's most significant faith experiences have
been in worship at camp and during mission trips in the United States, Mexico,
and Central America. He has keynoted and directed camps in three other regions
prior to coming to Georgia. His skills include the facilitation, organization,
and function of small groups, as well as preaching and teaching in the
congregational and camp settings. He has served as Youth Minister at Harvard
Avenue Christian Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma and as Associate Minister at First
Christian Church, Arlington, Texas.
Michael has a wealth of experience in the
administration of camps, having worked in a variety of capacities at camps in
Oklahoma. He has also been the President of the Board of Directors of a Disciple
camp in Texas.
In addition to serving as Associate Regional
Minister for Youth and Young Adults, Michael also serves as Executive Director
of Our Camp Christian where he makes his home with his wonderful wife, Michelle
Raiford Weeks and his daughter Leah Ruth (Ruthie) Weeks.
