Michael Weeks is a fifth
generation Disciple born in Enid, Oklahoma in 1961. The oldest of
three children, Michael spent his formative years living at Central Christian
Camp and Conference Center in
Guthrie, Oklahoma where his father, also Disciple clergy, served as
Administrator.
His first call to ministry came at a high school work camp. He attended Phillips
University and got side tracked in the Mass Communications Department and
graduated in December of 1984 with a Bachelor of Science. He served, as a youth
sponsor and camp counselor whenever he could, but had to pay the freight by
working in the Broadcast business in Oklahoma, Texas, and North Carolina. He
managed as many as 25 employees during his first career. Michael finally
answered God's call and graduated from Phillips Theological Seminary in 1997. He
was ordained at First Christian Church, Guthrie, Oklahoma the next day.
Michael's most
significant faith experiences have been in worship at camp and during mission
trips in the United States, Mexico, and Central America. He has keynoted and
directed camps in three other regions prior to coming to Georgia. His skills
include the facilitation, organization, and function of small groups, as well as
preaching and teaching in the congregational and camp settings. He has served as
Youth Minister at Harvard Avenue Christian Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma and as
Associate Minister at First Christian Church, Arlington, Texas.
Michael has a wealth
of experience in the administration of camps, having worked in a variety of
capacities at camps in Oklahoma. He has also been the President of the Board of
Directors of a Disciple camp in Texas.
Michael serves as Executive Director of Our Camp Christian where he
makes his home with his wonderful wife, Michelle Raiford Weeks, his daughter
Leah Ruth (Ruthie) Weeks, and son John William Weeks.
