Friday Night

The 2009 Regional Assembly began on Friday afternoon with a Clergy Gathering where Jamie Brame of Christmount led a session on clergy sabbaticals.  Following the clergy, the Regional Board met and then a wonderful Dinner hosted by Cherry Log Christian Church.

During Dinner, Regional Minister Rev. Ray Miles presented certificates to congregations for growth in membership and for Disciples Mission Fund giving.  Ray pointed out that most of the certificates handed out were for 10% growth as a percentage of worship attendance which is a very positive sign!

After Dinner it was time for fellowship and a chance to check out the book display and various display boards before worship.

Friday Evening Worship began with a prelude by the Cherry Log Christian Church Bell Choir followed by a call to worship of "Lift Thine Eyes" by Felix Mendelson Bartholdy performed by the Cherry Log Christian Church Ladies Ensemble.

Men's breakfast as reported by President Will Purdue:  We had a great start to our day with the Men's Hour at 8am. It was early, but everyone quickly got in gear with a rousing praise hymn led by Bob Grant (Griffin) and more than enough coffee supplied by Cherry Log Christian Church. The video about COOKIN' FOR MISSION (formerly Int. Day of Pancakes) was viewed with an invitation for all Georgia Men's Groups to hold a fundraiser event to support this national endeavor.  Several announcements were made including the dates March 19 - 21, 2010 for Georgia Men's Retreat at Camp Christian and the needs for Layman of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award nominations.  Dick Savage of Disciples Benevolent Services then spoke to us about this vital service ministry with an emphasis on the Chaplaincy to US Seniors.  Please enjoy the newest edition of the Disciples Men Quarterly now called THE VOICE OF DISCIPLES MEN.

The morning was Workshop time.  There were three tracks of workshops to choose from:
1) Fellowship and Personal Growth
2) Congregational Leadership
3) Regional Ministry and Vision

Following lunch, a Business Session was held that included the presentation of staff and other reports, elections and installations, presentation and approval of budgets and some special recognitions.

Sekinah Hamlin.
