Lawrenceville First is thrilled to announce that the Family
Promise Day Center has opened on our church property, with an
official ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house on April 20.
Hundreds of Gwinnett County supporters of Family Promise turned out
for the event.
Elizabeth McElhanon, an elder at LFCC, offered the prayer of
dedication for the new Day Center. Rev. Katie Hays received a plaque
from Family Promise with a five-dollar bill mounted on it, to
represent the five-year lease at $1 per year that the church offered
for the use of the house on their property.
Family Promise of Gwinnett County is an organization that houses
homeless families in area churches at night. The Day Center is the
place where families can take showers, do laundry, and use computers
and other resources to find work and housing. Preschool children
have a place to play, and older children have a place to come and do
homework after school. The Family Promise director and a dedicated
social worker have offices in the Day Center. Lawrenceville First
has been working closely with Family Promise for almost two years to
get the Day Center renovated and open. Glory to God!
