Friendship Goes “Global”
Friendship Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of
Athens, Georgia, is officially a “Global Mission
Church.”
The congregation already enjoys a relationship with Dr. Anil Henry and
his family. Dr. Henry visited the church in 2007, preached during a
morning worship service, and made an inspiring presentation during a
fellowship meal. Friendship has a special and personal bond with Dr.
Henry. Friendship truly began its process of becoming a Global Mission
Church by RECEIVING the gifts of ministry from our international friends
at the Hospital in Mungeli, through their physician, administrator,
minister, visionary, and servant. Continuing to seek opportunities to
PRAY for our missionaries and those to whom they minister, Friendship
also makes it a priority to stay AWARE and increase our EDUCATION about
Global Missions.
A highlight of being a Global Mission Church is
discovering opportunities GIVE to missions and to GROW together in
keeping those commitments. At a recent fellowship picnic, Friendship
decided to GIVE in two very specific ways. First is “Child Sponsorship.”
The congregation has decided to support a child through the Child
Sponsorship Program, and is doing so with the Family Village Farm
located in Katpadi, Vellore, India. In addition to this ongoing support,
Friendship is also sending sufficient funds to renovate one of twenty
bathrooms at the Family Village Farm. Everything we do as a Global
Mission Church results in a return of increased faith and enthusiasm for
partnership in ministry and mission with Global Ministries.
Friendship encourages other congregations to discover
the benefits and opportunities of “Going Global.” Contact the Reverend
Bob Harris, Pastor, and Regional “Ministries and Mission Interpreter
“for additional information (770-815-9078).
