Central in Augusta observes Veteran's Day 2007
Just as did many other congregations, Central in
Augusta observed Veteran's Day on November the 11th. The Christian flag
and the American flag were presented by a Color Guard comprised of
congregation members (retired and active duty).
We were especially honored to have represented in the
presentation of Colors 2 women--Mrs. Ollie Mae Nimmons and Capt.
Hillary Thomas (MD). Mrs. Nimmons served as a WAVE during WW2 and
Capt. Thomas is currently serving in the army. Others in the Color
Guard were: Ed Gilliland, retired from Georgia National Guard (though in
the National Guard, he served in the active army status), Paul
Neidlinger, retired from the Navy, and Charlie Sidener, retired from the
army. Charlie served aboard an LST during WW2 and went on to serve
and retire from the army.
We know that we are not the only congregation to have
2 women (retired and active) as members, but we know there are not all
that many especially ones who served in WW2. We have had others
women who served in WW2 as members, but they have passed.
The congregation was led in prayer for America by our
Veterans and led in Pledges to the American Flag, the Christian Flag and
The Bible during the presentation. At the end of the service all
Veterans in attendance were asked to come forward for a group photo.
Attached several photos from this day's observance.
May God Continue to Bless America, our Service
Members, the Disciples in Georgia--Believers around the World--May WE
ALL be instrumental in Increasing His Kingdom here on Earth!

Central Celebrates 125 Years!
Central Christian Church of Augusta
had four different days of
celebration for their 125th Anniversary: one per quarter.
The first celebration was on March 11, 2007. Rev. Morris Wood was the guest speaker
that day and Rev. Don Manning retired pastor of First Christian Augusta, which was originally
Central's mother church (now a sister church) brought greetings. Special
guests were the alumni of Tubman High School, formerly the all girl High School, and named in honor of the patron to
Central,
Mrs. Emily Tubman. Mrs. Tubman was a noted
philanthropists and contributed money and land for the building
of a Church in West Augusta that became Central.
The second celebration was on June 3, 2007. Eddie Parker, a
former member of Central and now lay minister of Oxford Christian Church
in Kentucky, brought the midday message and Dr. Rev. Ray Miles Regional
Minister of Georgia the 1:30 message.
Central Christian had the 3rd Sunday
of Celebration of the 125th Anniversary on August 12, 2007 in Augusta.
The Guests Ministers were: Reverend Ted Keckler, a former associate and
minister of Central who brought the morning message. Ted is now
retired from the Ministry. Bringing the message at 1:15 pm was the
Reverend Jack Snellgrove, one of Central's Timothy's and son of Long
Time Central Saint Ossie Snellgrove. Those in attendance enjoyed a
BBQ with all the trimmings in between the services. Many former
members attended this special day of worship and reunion.
Central's final 125th Celebration was
celebrated on October 7, 2007. Former ministers and Timothy's of our
congregation were invited back to fill the pulpit at the morning and
afternoon services during our time of celebration. Of course, being
"Good Disciples" there was plenty of Delicious Food available at each
celebration. The Guest Minister for the Final Day of Celebration (and
Homecoming Event) was a Timothy of our congregation, Reverend Lester
Palmer. Lester and his wife Janelle now live in Indiana. The day of
celebration concluded with “Dinner on the Grounds” and a program. Former
Timothy, Ronnie Stanford; former minister, Tom Mims, former member (and
Chaplain at St. Joseph's Hospital in Augusta), Reverend Lorraine Wells;
spoke during the program - sharing greetings and testimony. Former
member (and wife of Tom Mims), Ester Mims; former member (and brother of
Lester Palmer), Fred Palmer; friend of the congregation, Bill Prather
all Praised God in song during the program. It was a Powerful Day of
Remembrance and Worship as we concluded the celebration of 125 years of
service and focused on Looking Forward to the next 125 years of Serving
God in this Place. Paul Neidlinger and Erving Floyd cooked Pork
Loins, Dressing, Gravy and Mashed Potatoes for the Dinner on the
Grounds. Their efforts were supplemented by the congregation with each
family bringing large covered dishes to include delicious desserts.
Having four celebrations throughout the year was Central's way of embracing the whole year and Praising God for the 125
Years that He has chosen to use Central Christian to touch the community
around the church and to communities far beyond.

celebrations:
