First Christian Church Installs Pastor

McClelland-brown_SarahFirst Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Eastman installed Rev. Sarah L. McClelland-Brown as their pastor on January 3, 2016. Rev. McClelland-Brown was ordained at First Christian Church of Valdosta, Ga on January 2, 2016. The congregants of First Christian Church are excited to have Sarah join them in living out the mission of the church.   Current plans include activities to further outreach and evangelism in our community.  Most recently, First Christian Church offered fruit baskets and carols over the Christmas season, and participated in Fall for Dodge for the first time.  First Christian Church is open and welcoming and encourages those looking for a church home to come.  First Christian Church of Eastman has Sunday School at 10 AM and Worship at 11.  On Wednesdays, Bible Study is at 6 PM.  First Christian Church is located at 5327 Odgen Street.

Sarah received her Master of Divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in 2013 and her Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Technical Theatre from Transylvania University in 2010. Prior to serving at First Christian Church of Eastman, Sarah was a chaplain intern at Saint Francis Hospital in Columbus, Ga.  Sarah has served in various roles with the church in Kentucky and Georgia, including the Camp Christian Camp and Conference Center in Gordon, Ga.  Sarah is currently supporting the Christian Church in Georgia (Disciples of Christ) on the women’s commission and other committees.  Sarah also plans to continue to participate in the summer camp program at Camp Christian.

Sarah is married to Jonathan (Jon) Brown, whom she met while attending seminary.  Jonathan is the minister of Abbeville United Methodist Church and Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.  Raised mostly in Georgia, the two are making their home in Abbeville.  Sarah enjoys sewing, cooking, and biking.
