2008 Men's Retreat

"Ordinary Men Called to Leadership" was the theme of this years Retreat at Christmount Retreat Center in Black Mountain N.C.  Rev. Jerry Gladson and Rev. David Grandgeorge delivered outstanding messages.

Although the weather was a bit rainy the program, music, worship and fellowship were exceptional as always.

Robert (Bob) Grant named Layman of the Year

In a ceremony at First Christian Church of Griffin on January 20, Bob Grant was awarded Layman of the Year by the Georgia Men's Commission.

Did you ever feel like life is a giant puzzle? Putting the pieces of life’s puzzle together can be a daunting task, but by surrounding yourself with fellow Disciples all trying to figure it out together, you will find the picture coming into focus much more easily.

On July 17 through 20, 2008, join men from across the United States and Canada in Oklahoma City, for inspiration, fellowship, education, and spiritual renewal.

Speakers to include:  Rev. Dr. Rick Lowery, Old Testament scholar and enthusiastic preacher, who will help explore these and other scriptures in his daily Bible studies.  Mark Briley, a Disciples pastor and the Rev. William Lee, a Disciples of Christ general church leader. Rev. Dr. Sharon Watkins, General Minister and President.

  • Discussion Forums Online - Join with Disciple Men from around the state in online discussions of topics ranging from the Retreat to ideas for service projects.  CLICK HERE to join the discussion!
     

  • International Day of Pancakes - was introduced in 1996 as a way for the Christian Men's Fellowship to complete hand-on mission projects that benefit youth.  A day in March each year is deignated as "The International Day of Pancakes" and each CMF groups is encouraged to hold a Pancake breakfast fundraiser.  Monies are distributed to CMF groups who apply for grants.  For more information and a Pancake Day Kit CLICK HERE or contact the Coordinator, Ken Wiedman at kwiedman@aol.com
    The approved projects for 2007 Pancake Grants included:

    • Disciples Men of Guyton Christian Church, Guyton, Ga.
      $7,500. Continue development of "Project Good Times" playground area. Large play system complete with two slides, rock wall, crawl tube, and swing for tots. Addition of hard surface area for basketball and other sports.
       

  • Disciples Men Web Site - Learn about National events, resources and other information from the Division of Homeland Ministries Men's web site.
     
  • Ministrytomen - is a website devoted to identifying the needs of Christian men and offering proven, effective resources for meeting those needs.  Recommended by Rev. Greg Alexander at the 2004 Men's Retreat.
