2010 Fall North East Men's Rally

Excitement was in the air Saturday October 16 at Union Christian Church in Watkinsville when the NE District Georgia Disciples Men met for their 2010 Fall Rally. A dose of the football spirit was present for sure but a heap of the Holy Spirit was present even more so.

Twenty-three men (and women) gathered at 9:30 for a morning filled with music, message and fellowship.

Rev. Troy Tatum, Pastor of Union Christian Church in Watkinsville, welcomed all in attendance and led us in the Opening Prayer followed by Joe Austin, NW District Men's Representative, graciously giving the Announcements due to a vacancy in the NE Representatives position. A Roll Call for NE District churches was taken, a J-E-S-U-S cheer was shouted, and a Regional Moment was shared thereafter by Will Perdue. An offering of $130 was then collected for the DM Work Fund which benefits both Men's and Youth needs -- Thanks to all who gave!

Phil Price, present Pastor of Sandy Springs Christian Church and previous Interim for Union Christian Church, orchestrated the special music along with the help of J.R. Beckwith and Rev. Troy Tatum. Rev Phil played piano and led vocals while J.R. and Rev Troy accompanied on guitars.
Precious Lord Take My Hand, I Saw The Light, and I Go To The Rock were inspiring songs performed by the trio. Rise Up O Men of God, sung by all in attendance, rounded off the music time.

The morning's message, "What Practice Doesn't Make" was delivered by Rev Doug Ivey of First Christian Church of Watkinsville. Text was from Luke 6:27 - 38. In this message, Rev Doug reminded us of an old saying "Practice makes perfect". However, this is not always true because we are human and still make mistakes. Jesus said to' turn the other cheek' and 'love your enemies'. "Bring love into everything we do... practice may not be perfect, (but) it will be beautiful... and LIKE Jesus who teaches us", Doug stated.

Rev Troy Tatum then gathered the men in the Friendship Circle and gave the Benediction.
Blest Be The Tie ,sung acapella by all , gracefully ended the morning's gathering. A delicious southern style lunch of fried chicken and fixin's, delivered by Strickland's Restaurant and Catering, then followed.

Much Thanks to David Vaughn, Julian Beckwith, Doyle Ashley and all the Union Christian Church Men who made this event possible.
