Let No One Despise Your Youth
February 20–22, 2026, I had the privilege of attending our Regional Youth Assembly at Epworth. I returned home deeply grateful for what I witnessed among the youth and adult leaders of the Christian Church in Georgia.
Eighty-four youth and thirty-nine adult leaders from fifteen congregations gathered for worship, learning, prayer, encouragement, and fellowship. It was a vivid reminder that our young people are not simply participants in the life of the Church—they are vital contributors to it. The diversity of congregations represented, the depth of engagement, and the joy shared throughout the weekend reflected the strength and promise of our Region.
Throughout the Assembly, I found myself reflecting on Paul’s words to Timothy:
“Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12)
That verse was not theoretical last weekend. It was embodied. Our youth led with authenticity and courage. They asked thoughtful questions. They supported one another. They worshiped with sincerity. They modeled faith in ways that encouraged the adults present as much as their peers.
I am especially grateful for our Youth Advisory Council (YAC) youth and adult leaders who prayerfully planned and led this Assembly. Their preparation and leadership created space for meaningful connection and spiritual growth. They helped our young people experience the Church beyond the walls of their own congregations—reminding them that they belong to a larger covenant community across the Christian Church in Georgia.
I am equally encouraged by the ongoing work of our Youth Task Force. They are thoughtfully discerning what God is calling us toward next in youth ministry—how we strengthen communication among congregations, deepen inter-congregational relationships, and create opportunities for youth throughout the year. This is careful, forward-looking work rooted in our shared commitment to nurturing the faith of the next generation.
Youth Assembly is one expression of that commitment. It is not merely an annual event; it is a shared investment in leadership development, spiritual formation, and regional connection.
If you have never experienced Youth Assembly, I encourage you to consider supporting it in the future—by encouraging youth from your congregation to attend, by serving as an adult leader, or by praying intentionally for this ministry.
And if you would like to help ensure that every young person who desires to attend can do so, I invite you to support our Youth Assembly Scholarship Fund. Financial limitations should never prevent a young person from participating in a formative encounter with the wider Church. You can do that through the GIVE link on our regional website or here; be sure to select "Youth Assembly Scholarships" to designate your gift.
Thank you for investing in the faith and formation of our youth. When we make room for their voices, their leadership, and their gifts, we are strengthening the present and future of the Christian Church in Georgia.
Blessings,
Rev. Dr. Adam Harmon
Regional Minister
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Georgia
